Ai Weiwei is a Chinese contemporary artist who active in sculpture, installation, architecture, curating. Mostly, he is famous by his critic of the Chinese Goverment’s stance on democracy and human rights. On a 2013 Biennale he represents Germany with his three large-scale works dedicated to this topic.
Has to be said, because of the acute criticism in his works Ai was arrested and held in prison for over two months. For the exact same reason ArtReview named him number one in their annual Power 100 list.

“To express yourself needs a reason, but expressing yourself is the reason”
